The retro diner adorned with music memorabilia inside the swanky and stylish Hard Rock Hotel is one of the best values for brunch and bloody marys inside of a hotel. You won’t find a better value inside any of the neighboring hotels.

There’s something very nostalgic about Mary Jane’s Diner that brought me back to high school where my friends and I had our very own version of, “The Max”. As soon as I walked in and saw the retro decor, it took me back…well I won’t say how many years ago.

MaryJane’s Diner has an expansive dining room with tables, booths, and a bar, but also has an outdoor patio that is great for people watching and puts you right in the action of downtown San Diego.

Open for “early birds, night owls, and champagne wishes,”  MaryJane’s opens for brunch at 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and boasts bottomless mimosas and a great build your own bloody mary bar!

The build your own bloody mary bar at MaryJane’s Diner starts with you filling out your personalized card on how you want your bloody mary built. Choose from MaryJane’s spicy house mix (of course I went for this one), Clamato juice, tomato juice, or Tabasco spicy bloody mary mix for your base and then choose from a plethora of toppings to garnish your bloody mary with. Jalapeño, pickle, olive, lemon, lime blue cheese olives, tomato wedge, pickled cauliflower, bacon, and daikon radish….is there any excuse not to get them all?

When the bloody mary arrived at my table I was excited to eat…I mean drink, my colorfully garnished bloody mary topped with tasty treats. The spicy mix isn’t incredibly spicy but gives you enough bite to alert your senses and the savory saltiness brings vital nutrients back to your body.

MaryJane’s Diner brunch features classic American-style food with a regional twist. Start your brunch off on a lighter note with a greek yogurt bowl with house-made granola and seasonal berries. Get completely brunchfaced with the juicy Breakfast Burger with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, fried egg, on a soft and fluffy brioche bun, served with a side of fruit, or a Slammin’ Hamwich with 2 eggs, ham and cheddar on grilled sourdough.

If you want to land somewhere in the middle with something filling but a little more cardiac friendly try the carne aside omelet with pico de gallo, cheddar, spicy cilantro cream, mj’s breakfast potatoes, and a breakfast biscuit.

A nostalgic atmosphere, great classic diner food, and an amazing build your own bloody mary bar, all at great value; MaryJane’s diner at the Hard Rock Hotel should be a go-to brunch for visitors to downtown San Diego area.
