Do you ever feel more lunchy than brunchy? I typically go for the breakfast on the weekends but during the week, I’d prefer to have breakfast early and then lunch later in the day, since I get up at 5AM!

While I’m fortunate enough to work from home, I spent several years in an office cubicle. I understand the need to get out of your office and break up the monotony. If you work downtown San Diego, The Smoking Gun is the perfect place to grab lunch and escape your cubicle! Here’s why you should be lunching at The Smoking Gun.

Laid Back Atmosphere

The Smoking Gun, a neighborhood eatery and bar in the Gaslamp invites you to, “drop in, rest easy, and speak loudly.” The Smoking Gun values, “comfort over cool,” so you won’t have to worry about anything but enjoying your delicious food and drinks. Leave your office persona at the door and take load off, you deserve it.

If you’re really needing to decompress on your lunch break, you can play a round of shuffleboard, ping pong, or foosball or even get silly in the photo booth. It’s like having Google in your office, except it’s just down the street and there’s bomb food and drinks.

A Hearty and Tasty Lunch Menu

The Smoking Gun lunch menu has plenty of lighter options and The Smoking Gun’s, “Eat Like You Mean It,” options aren’t overdone but hearty enough to satisfy the biggest appetites. You’ll get back to your desk ready to smash the rest of your work day!

Seared ahi tuna is the perfect add on to the Revolver salad with baby lettuce, shredded carrot, cucumber, red onion, heirloom tomato, candied pumpkin seeds (so delish) smoked gouda, with a caramelized shallot-apple vinaigrette. Add succulent and juicy smoked brisket (A Smoking Gun specialty) to your grilled cheese that comes with smoked gouda, American cheese, caramelized onions, garlic aioli, on a homemade bun.

San Diego’s Best Michelada

The Smoking Gun has been voted the best Michelada in San Diego by Pacific SD Magazine and I’m not surprised. While I don’t want to encourage drinking on your lunch break, I’m not sure you can pass up an opportunity to have one of these bad boys!

Almost a foot tall, the gigantic Smoking Michelada will blow your mind. You’ll savor every sip because it’s not your typical Clamato and lime juice michelada. The house-blend mix is made from scratch and infused with the juices from the brisket cooking in the back and filled to the rim with Modelo Especial. Sooo stinking good!

The Smoking Michelada is rimmed with dripping Pelon (tamarind candy) with crushed watermelon and mango and a house chili rub for a sweet and sour contrast to the savory cocktail. Garnished with a bacon wrapped Flautirikko Tamarindo stick and a peppered and crispy piece of bacon, it’s clear why The Smoking Michelada was voted #1 in San Diego!

Whether you work downtown San Diego or in the area searching for some lunch, The Smoking Gun has got you covered. Escape your cubicle, and the monotony of office life with a fun, laid back atmosphere, hearty and delicious food, and “San Diego’s best michelada,” If you can’t drink on your lunch break, then you can always swing by after work for their amazing happy hour!
