“This isn’t your typical La Jolla Sunday brunch”, were the words of Eric Fillion, owner of Pardon My French, spoke to me when I arrived at his French restaurant in North Park. He couldn’t be more right! When I walked in, loud music pumped through the walls as a DJ was spinning music on the turntables. Immediately, the vibe lifted my spirit and I felt a rush of excitement like this is the place to be on Sundays!

Pardon My French has an excellent bloody mary. At first glance, it looks basic, but nothing about the bloody, nor the atmosphere is basic. #dontbebasic! The bloody is salty and has a rich tomato flavor. You’ll feel any hangover start to dissipate almost immediately as your blood pressure starts to rise. Jalapeños or poblanos give this cocktail some serious spice and the perfect amount of horseradish nibbles your senses and tingles your tongue. Are you awake yet? Although the bloody is spicy is has a sweetness that calms and balances the cocktail, the way any balanced bloody mary should be.

Eric also brought me out a new creation of his, a tomatillo “green” bloody! Eric crafts his tomatillo bloody with tequila, which usually isn’t my favorite but the sweetness of the tomatillos masks the strong taste of tequila. The tomatillo bloody is sweet, refreshing and zesty. Tajin on the rim brings the perfect sour contrast to the cocktail.

As you wait for your food and sip your cocktails you'll begin to dance in your seat and sing along to the music, at least that's what I was doing! The food is so delicious! I recommend the veggie omelet or what my husband got, the Croque Madame and a chocolate croissant. He said, "some of the best he’s had in the states" and that’s saying a lot since he’s lived in France!

If you’re looking for the ultimate Sunday Funday I highly recommend Pardon My French. I didn’t quite get enough liquid courage to get up and dance this time but I definitely plan on going back and drinking more bloodys and shaking my booty. As Eric said, “this isn’t your typical Sunday brunch”. It’s a seriously fun atmosphere with amazing drinks and food!
