Summer Tomatillo Green Bloody Mary Recipe

Summer Tomatillo Green Bloody Mary Recipe

Summer days and nights are my absolute favorite. Endless sunshine and warm weather make me a happy gal. There’s nothing better than a cold cocktail and some nice light food from the SoCal region like ceviche or ahi crudo.

As much as I am obsessed with bloody marys, when it’s wicked hot, I don’t, and I don’t think you guys want a giant thick bloody mary with an overload of toppings. But there’s good news! You can have a light, crisp, cold and refreshing bloody mary to enjoy in the summer heat, in the form of a tomatillo green bloody mary.

I whipped up this summer tomatillo green bloody mary recipe so us bloody mary lovers can still enjoy a bloody mary in the sweltering heat. Not only is it light and incredibly fresh, it’s kinda pretty dang healthy, minus the whole vodka thing!

The summer tomatillo green bloody mary recipe is perfect for summer days and nights, but really you can drink it any time of year, anytime of day and pair it with cuisines like Mexican, Spanish, and Asian!

Ingredients - Serves 2:

         Mix

1lb tomatillos husked and halved

A few splashes of Cholula green hot sauce (it’s very spicy so be warned)

1 pint of yellow & orange cherry tomatoes

1-2 green Thai chilies (also very spicy so 1 for less heat, 2 for very spicy)

1 whole cucumber peeled and cut into quarters

2 teaspoons of garlic

Fresh squeezed lime juice from 2 limes

1 teaspoon of Worcestershire

1 teaspoon of kosher salt

2 teaspoons of cilantro, garlic, and lime seasoning

Handful of Cilantro, stems included

Smidge of celery seed

3 ounces of vodka, tequila or gin (I went with vodka)

         Garnish

2 lemon wedges

2 limes wedges

2 bushels of cilantro

4 yellow & orange cherry tomatoes

4 Thai chilies (use the ones that are more colorful than the green)

Cooked shrimp coated in paprika and cilantro, garlic, lime seasoning

For added freshness and cold, put mason jar mugs in the freezer when you begin the recipe - your ingredients will be somewhat warm so this will help chill your beverage

Instructions:

1.          In a food blender combine all of the green tomatillo bloody mary mix ingredients and blend until smooth. Taste test and add hot sauce for added heat or small amount of water to smooth out if needed

2.          Take mason jar mugs out of the freezer and fill with ice

3.          Add 1.5 ounces of vodka to each glass

4.          Pour equal amounts of mixture in each mug and stir evenly

5.          Garnish the summer green tomatillo bloody mary with lemon and lime pinwheels, cilantro, 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 Thai chilies and the shrimp

*sip and enjoy and please drink responsibly
