After living in San Diego for over a year I thought it would be time to see Mission Beach, since I had only driven through it going home from Pacific Beach (I know so many beaches). My friends and co-workers had said to steer clear of Mission Beach due to the astronomical number of tourists. Yes, it is true, it is full of tourists, the parking is a nightmare and most places, prices are inflated. However, the bloodys, beach, and people watching on the boardwalk is on point.

Sandbar, has a great bloody mary in Mission Beach. Dubbed the “BAB”, aka the Big Ass Bloody, Sandbar’s bloody mary won’t let you down. Served in a tall beer mug with what seems like an entire bottle of Skyy Vodka, this bloody had me wondering how I was going to get home! Sandbar makes their own in-house bloody mary mix and adds a generous amount of Clamato. The Clamato and the ice thin out the mix, which makes it smooth and refreshing, which is great on those summer days.

The BAB is served with a “skewer of goodness”, including meats, cheeses, red and green peppers, a pickle, celery, lime wedge, a crispy bacon piece and a buttery and syrup dripping piece of french toast. My only qualm was the french toast wasn’t bigger because it was so yummy. The heat level is average and the mix is mild

After I finishing my bloody I spent a solid hour people watching the boardwalk from my perch on the rooftop. Rollerbladers in cutoff jeans, bicyclists with gold chains and boom boxes, and drunk tourists on pedal pubs. The Big Ass Bloody and Sandbar is a great bloody spot for tourists and locals alike.
