The Farm Bloody Mary At Toast

The Farm Bloody Mary is garnished to perfection! Even the bacon is different; it’s beef, not pork, which San Diego Food Girl said was outstanding! There’s an adorable itty bitty breakfast meatball, deep-fried blue cheese olive (delicious), smoked cheddar, pickled asparagus and cayenne pickled garlic and pepperoncini. If you still have room for breakfast after your meal in a glass, I would recommend the veggie Benedict or the shrimp and grits! I can’t tell you how amazing it was!

Three Reasons You Should Be Dining at The Pearl Hotel’s New Restaurant Charles + Dinorah, Immediately

The Pearl had reinvented the poolside dining experience with Charles + Dinorah, “mid-century meets modern eats”. It’s an indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant that surrounds the hotel's pool that is, in the words of Missy Elliot is, “sophisticated fun”.  If you haven’t had the chance to dine at Charles + Dinorah, specifically their poolside brunch here's three reasons why you should!

Yoga + Brunch at New Hot Spot, Topside Terrace

When I find a place that is able to accommodate exercise, great views, and a delectable brunch, I’m totally there. Topside Terrace checks all those boxes and then some. On Saturdays, Topside offers a free yoga class for hotel guests and locals alike, before their brunch starts. So, I grabbed my yoga mat and headed downtown to get my flow on. There was something peaceful and simultaneously powerful about doing yoga on a terrace surrounded by skyscrapers. My mind and body felt strong. After yoga, each yogi received a glass of fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade. A much-appreciated gesture, since I hadn’t eaten yet.

The Colossal Bloody Mary

Hexx uses Zing Zing mix and adds some extra ingredients for a succulent, spicy, zippy bloody that will most certainly revive your tattered soul. The acidity balances perfectly with the heat and the plethora of spices dance on your tongue. I was feeling pretty sleepy, but after a few sips of The Colossal, I was ready to rock!

New Restaurant: Martina

Renee and I ordered the tomato cocktail, aka standard bloody! Make no mistake, standard is not the word that describes this bloody mary. Martina’s bloody mary is as fiery in color as it is in taste. This sizzling, spicy bloody is coming in hot. Although spicy and bold, the bloody mary also has a tangy and salty flavor that soothes your insides after the initial burst of heat. Martina’s bloody is rimmed with Cyprus Flake Salt; a Mediterranean salt that is probably the most delicious rim I’ve ever had! I enjoyed the bloody so much I decided to order a second one!

Garnish Perfection at Fig Tree Cafe

If you’re feeling sleepy Fig Tree’s bloody mary has just the remedy for you! It is a zesty, tangy, and acidic bloody that will definitely eradicate any sleepy senses you may have. #wakeyoself. The texture is thin and light, perfect for those warm days under the fig trees. Jalapeño infused vodka makes this bloody a little spicy, just enough to comfortably warm your insides.

North Park Beer Co.: Brew-Tail Flights And A New Brunch Menu By Mastiff Kitchen

North Park Beer Co. is nestled in the heart of North Park. They leave no detail to the wayside. Basile Studios, who also designed hotspots Kindred and Polite Provisions, has turned this former boxing gym into a spectacular mid-century space where every detail has been intentionally thought out; from the logo tiles in the bathrooms, the custom street lamps, and the most gorgeous dark stone bar top. The beer at NPBC is equally thoughtful (and delicious,) and the creativity and pairings of flavor and beer by Justin Stoddard’s (associate tap-room manager) brew-tails are nothing short of a bloody mary beer-loving Christmas miracle!

New Restaurant: Royale!

The Bloody Mary from Royale! is a tall glass of bubbly bloody indulgence. I knew with the first sip there was carbonation in the bloody mary. Royale! puts a dark Irish porter in the bloody that cuts the boldness and tang of the mix perfectly and brings a dark richness to the cocktail. The bloody mary is topped with an assortment of yummy pickled veggies, a lemon wedge from their family-owned organic hopyard and orchard (yes they own a family farm), a delicious mini grilled cheese and a pickle slice!

Savory Views and Bloodys at Hello Betty Fish House

The bloody mary at Hello Betty has been one of my favorites of 2018 so far! When I first sipped the bloody mary I said to my brunch date, “oooh wow that is savory”. If you’ve read any of my other blogs then you know I’m a savory and salty kind of gal, so the bloody immediately hit the spot! Betty's bloody mary mix is loaded with flavor and spices, especially celery seed and garlic and is light on the horseradish. Every morsel has an umami flavor that is rich, deep and elevates the warmth of the tomato juice. The bloody mary is not spicy, but sometimes that’s completely okay! The Hello Betty house-made bloody mary is topped off with New Amsterdam Vodka, a simple celery stalk, lemon wedge and a kosher salt rim!

Smokin' Mary at Wood Ranch

Tasting the first sip of the Smokin’ Mary resonates with the smell when you pull up to Wood Ranch and get out of your car; barbeque and wood smoking! A deep rich smoky flavor prevails but is not overpowering and contrasts with the light sweetness and tang of BBQ sauce. The Wood Ranch Smokin’ Mary is salty and savory but the consistency remains thin. A little kick of heat nips at your senses but overall is pretty tame. Because the bloody mary isn't too heavy, it’s a great compliment to one of Wood Ranches BBQ dishes.

The Drunken Tomato Awards

The first annual Drunken Tomato awards were a huge success! With 52 entries spanning across 6 categories: New Product, Mild, Hot & Spicy, Ceasar, Liquid Seasoning and Dry Seasoning, the 7 industry expert judges had their hands full! Judging that many bloody marys from all over the world may be a tough job, but someone has to do it!
