Don’t you just love the smell of Barbecue? Whether it’s your thing or not, you can’t deny luring aromas billowing from slow roasted meat! Smells trigger memories and emotions within our brains, so when I pulled up to Cali Comfort BBQ and smelled the food smoking in the back, I was transported to fond memories of grilling with my dad on camping trips, holiday barbecues or just a regular Tuesday night. Oh, the nostalgia.

Then look no further than the 14th-floor rooftop destination bar, The Nolen, for “The Sunday Requirement.” I require that you try this place out as soon as possible! When I walked off the elevator and turned the corner, my jaw dropped to the floor. I was blown away by the expansive views and tall ceilings, as were the other members of my monthly Bloody Mary Meetup Group

That’s how I feel every time I leave True Food Kitchen, located at Fashion Valley Mall, a fabulous open-air mall. So, naturally, I’ve stopped in True Food on several occasions with friends and my husband. I wasn’t aware they had brunch, so when I saw their sign outside advertising brunch, I was thrilled!
Read MoreI wondered into Maggie’s Cafe, a Mexican restaurant, and a bar in Serra Mesa. As I walked in, I noticed a chalkboard sign that read, “$5.00 dollar bloody marys” and I almost tripped over myself! Five dollar bloody marys are like unicorns in San Diego; non-existent. I thought to myself, maybe I could have one now with breakfast but quickly used my better judgment and ordered a giant omelet instead.
Read MorePriscilla started out by muddling the recently delivered Japanese cherry tomatoes from Specialty Produce. Muddling helps release the fresh flavors of the tomatoes and mix with the alcohol exceptionally well. This process took me back to cooking in my own kitchen, making pasta sauce from scratch and blending the tomatoes. Tomatoes taste airy and fresher-than-fresh through this process.
Read MoreLucky for me, the Market Mary was unavailable because the garnish would’ve been a distraction from the palatable bloody mary mix. Keeping with their craft cocktail theme, the mix is made in-house and fresh! The Bloody was fierce and citrusy from the olive brine and fresh lemon juice, instantly raising my blood pressure.
Read MoreSaturday night; not the typical time I go for bloody marys. Tequila; not the typical liquor I drink in my bloody marys. Meeting someone who I met on Instagram in person; not the typical way I meet people. However, when in Rome, (and by that I mean a coastal Mexican restaurant in Pacific Beach serving bloody Maria’s for $6, with an invite from San Diego Food Girl) one lives on the edge!
Read MoreThe Bloody Marie from Et Voila is one of my favorite bloody marys I’ve had in San Diego. The taste and the presentation were sophisticated and whimsical, which I would expect nothing less from a true French Bistro. Immediately, my sense of smell was heightened by the fresh thyme and basil leaves that were a part of the garnish. The garden garnish continued with an olive, celery, mushroom, pickled onion and carrot.
Read MoreThe Roxy Encinitas “Everything but the Kitchen Sink" bloody mary is 24 ounces served in a large mason jar of a made from scratch mix topped with an abundance of delicious food. The Roxy is a completely from scratch kitchen, so nothing comes from a jar, bottle or a can. This, in my opinion, is an essential staple in the best bloody marys. When my bloody mary arrived, everyone stopped and stared as we marveled at the size and spectacle of the bloody.

St. George's contains serranos and bell peppers, layered with notes lime and cilantro, a true California palette. St. George's brings the depth of this bloody mary flavor to the next level. The bloody is sweet and savory with a final pop of heat from the vodka, that leaves you wanting more. It is not difficult to drink the entire bloody in just a few minutes.

Read MoreThe Tower23 bloody mary had a stunning presentation; glistening in the sunbeams on the oceanfront patio, It was almost too pretty to drink! JRDN infuses their vodka with jalapeños and cilantro. I personally love cilantro, it gives meals and drinks such a refreshing and floral taste, in the best way possible. The mix is made in-house with a mild flavor but has that last second kick from the jalapeño infusion and spices. The jalapeños gave the bloody a perfect amount of heat, making it drinkable for lovers of all spice-levels.

You let your bloody mary assistant know how spicy you want it (there is a large array of hot sauces to choose from) on a scale of 1-10, she adds Worcestershire sauce and fresh lemon juice and then your journey begins. Courtney and I went in two different directions for our toppings. Courtney chose bacon, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, ham, and a few veggies. I went for a kosher salt rim, pepper, celery salt, chili powder, pickled carrots, cauliflower, and peppers.

Read MoreSugar, spice, and everything nice, is the best way to describe this bloody! Sweet and tangy and a little on the thick side. I've heard they put brown sugar in their bloodys, but I wasn't able to confirm. The spice was more peppery than horseradish and the tabasco flavor was prevalent. The skewer had some scrumptious treats. A lime pin wheel, bacon, pepperoncini, olive, celery and an old bay rim seasoning. I was very thankful for the waiter who went out of his way to bring me this bloody, that’s 5-star service! The icing on the cake this breakfast was the scenery, waterfalls and swans wading in a pond, with the palm trees and the ocean as a backdrop!
