What do you think of when you think of steins? Beer! And even Oktoberfest! Garage Kitchen + Bar on 4th Ave in the Gaslamp District has something to say about that!

I knew before going in that the Garage Kitchen + Bar bloody mary was going to be big, but I was not expecting the gargantuan that is the Twisted Sister bloody mary. The Twisted Sister is a thirty-four-ounce Bavarian “twist” on a traditional bloody. San Diego Food Girl and I were wondering why we didn’t bring two friends or more with us to share!

Amazingly tasty and cute breakfast shots!

The Twisted Sister was a vibrant red with plentiful spices that congregated at the bottom of the glass. I had to use silverware to mix it up, as a straw just wasn’t long enough to reach the bottom of this behemoth. The bloody mary was rich in flavor and in thickness but thinned by the flavorful Fugu Vodka. A large amount of horseradish tingled the tip of my nose and the onion powder and celery salt give it a sharp and swift taste. With the spice, there is also a sweetness to the bloody. The entire recipe was not disclosed to me, as it was the bartender secret; A good bartender never mixes and tells! I know that beets are popular in Bavarian cuisine (because of the cold climate), but if this is an ingredient, I can’t tell for sure. Lastly, the bloody had a strong vinegar taste from not only the Worcestershire sauce but also the mustard, a very popular German cuisine condiment. I personally love mustard!

The bloody mary was topped with the only things you would expect a Bavarian bloody mary to be topped with; a soft salted pretzel and a juicy, crispy, to die for bratwurst that melts in your mouth. The stein was rimmed with mustard for your pretzel, versus the tradition salt rim that I thought was such a creative alternative!

If you're in the Gaslamp area I highly recommending heading one block over to 4th Ave, to Garage Kitchen + Bar. The Bloody was of epic proportions and they have the best and cutest breakfast cereal shots! I had the veggie omelet that was served with the most divine rosemary potatoes! It’s a great place to share drinks and food with friends! Caution, drinking the Twisted sister alone, will, in fact, get you twisted!

Mmmmmm rosemary breakfast potatoes and a great veggie omelet
