Brunch at WhipHand, an American Brasserie and Beer Bank
WhipHand, East Village
As you may already know, my husband and I love baseball. So much so, we have season tickets to the Padres, so we are down at Petco Park quite often. I’m always looking for a great place to grab brunch before our Sunday day games and recently, I found WhipHand.
We arrived before the Padres game when they opened at 11am, and WhipHand quickly began to fill with other brunch and baseball aficionados….my kind of people! WhipHand is literally steps from Petco Park so it makes it incredibly convenient to grab a bite and some beer before the game.
WhiphHnd, an American Brasserie and Beer Bank doesn’t have an expansive brunch menu, but the options are well thought out and wonderfully delicious. Sometimes, less is more and makes your decision-making process a lot easier!
For brunch, my husband and I tried out three of the 3/5 options. The Short Rib + Egg with roasted potatoes, carrots, caramelized onions, and two eggs was one of the best short ribs I’ve ever had. Typically, I am unimpressed with short rib, it tastes like pot roast to me. I was thrilled when I bit into this dish; succulent, savory, juicy, and packed with flavor, I highly recommend this brunch dish!
The Veggie Omelette with roasted seasonal veggies and a blistered tomato sauce is a unique open faced omelette. I’ve never had an omelette like that before, but it was like a pizza, but an omelette. The blistered tomato sauce is right up my alley and the roasted veggies are crispy and yummy.
Breakfast Sando, my husband’s favorite dish comes on a jalapeño kolache bun, with creonaise, bacon, scrambled eggs, and smoked cheddar cheese. The bun is fluffy and soft, and the thick cut bacon combined with the eggs and melted cheese makes this dish a perfect dish to fill up on before hitting the game or cure your hangover!
When your brunching on that delish food you’re going to need something to wash it all down with. Lucky for patrons of WhipHand they have a beer bank! WhipHand’s beer bank consists of 24 self-serve draft beers on tap, where you get a card from your server and use the card to access and pour your own beers. If you’re more into cocktails, WhipHand has a full bar with some really quirky and fun cocktails.
WhipHand is a great place to grab some brunch and an ice-cold beer. My husband and I grabbed a table on the patio which was great for people…and dog watching, and there’s some comfy couches you can grab on the patio for larger groups. On the inside, a modern and sleek design that is still welcoming and cozy is the perfect spot for visitors and residents of the neighborhood alike.
